Maple Grove Water Is Hard. Really Hard.
The City's own water quality report puts Maple Grove at 19–22 grains per gallon, and the report says plainly that most homes here install a private softener. Osseo drinks the same water — they buy it from Maple Grove — and so do Corcoran and part of Dayton.
Twenty grains is not a cosmetic problem. Scale bakes onto the water heater element, so the heater works harder and dies sooner. White crust builds on the faucet aerators and shower heads. Glasses come out of the dishwasher spotted. Soap won't lather, so you use more of it. Every valve, cartridge and fixture in the house lives a shorter life.
The City studied central softening in 2024 and is surveying residents about it. No decision has been made. Until one is, softening happens in your basement or it doesn't happen.
